Industrial 3D scanning — precise on-site survey, without stopping production
3D scanning (or digitisation) captures the real geometry of an object, a machine or a site as a point cloud that can be used to produce drawings, CAD models or inspections. Do you have a part, a machine or an installation to survey in 3D to reproduce, modify or document it? We scan the existing asset with a laser scanner and deliver what it is used for — not just a point cloud.
Describe my needWhen we step in
- A plant with no up-to-date documentation to survey before works
- A part or a machine to reproduce when the drawings have been lost
- Equipment to fit into a tight space without dismantling
- A geometry to capture before modification or expert assessment
How we work
- Scoping. Pre-visit or call: objectives, access, safety, schedule. We choose the technology (laser, structured light, photogrammetry) according to the material and the size.
- On-site acquisition. Contactless laser scanning, with scan positions planned to minimise the impact on operations. 1 to 3 technicians depending on scale.
- Processing. Registration, noise cleaning, consolidation into a usable point cloud.
- Delivery. The useful deliverable: drawing, CAD model, report — not a raw point cloud.
What you walk away with
- Consolidated and cleaned point cloud
- Dimensioned 2D drawings / as-built 3D models
- Universal CAD formats (STEP, IGES) or native (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
- Production-ready models: CNC machining, 3D printing, moulding

Real-world case
Engine hold of the three-masted Belem
Commissioned by the Belem Foundation, we scanned and reconstructed in 3D the structure of the engine hold of the Belem — the last great French commercial sailing ship of the 19th century, listed as a historic monument — ahead of the hull renovation works. The 3D model accounts for the successive modifications and confirms the dimensions: a reliable, concise basis for preparing the works efficiently.
Frequently asked questions
What accuracy do you achieve?
Down to ±0.01 mm on a machined part, ±1 mm on structural steelwork / piping / boilerwork, ±5 mm at the scale of a full site.
Do you have to stop production?
Rarely. Laser scanning is contactless and silent; scan positions are planned to minimise the impact.
What is the delivery time?
A few hours for a part, 1 to 2 days for a 500 m² workshop, 1 to 3 weeks for a complete site.
Can you measure hard-to-reach areas?
Yes: dense point clouds behind cluttered structures, at height or in hazardous zones, without contact.
Do you carry out 3D surveys in industrial environments?
Yes, it is our core business: 3D surveys of workshops, production lines, piping and complete industrial sites, including ATEX / Seveso zones (MASE certified).
How does a 3D scan of a complete industrial site work?
Reconnaissance, positioning of the laser scan stations, on-site acquisition (production kept running where possible), assembly of the global point cloud, then delivery of the model or usable drawings.
Who does the work
SCAD Engineering — 15 years of industrial 3D scanning. Work led by a senior engineer. MASE certification No. 2024-411 (Seveso / ATEX sites). France & abroad.
